The federal government has increased petrol prices by Rs. 5.36 per litre, bringing the new price to Rs. 272.15, effective from July 16. The decision follows a review of international oil prices and exchange rate adjustments.
According to a notification issued by the Finance Division, the price of high-speed diesel remains unchanged for now. The increase comes as part of the government’s bi-weekly fuel price adjustment mechanism.
Economic analysts warn that the hike could lead to a fresh wave of inflation, affecting transportation costs and prices of essential commodities. Meanwhile, transporters and the general public have expressed concern over the continuous increase in fuel prices.
The new prices will remain in effect until the next revision scheduled for the end of the month.
