The All Pakistan Petroleum Dealers Association (APPDA) has announced the closure of petrol pumps across the country starting March 4, citing concerns over the government’s deregulation policy.
The association stated that a crucial meeting is scheduled with Federal Minister Musadik Malik, where they will discuss their reservations about not being consulted on the policy changes. They warned that if their concerns are not addressed, petrol pumps will remain shut indefinitely.
Raza Abbas, leader of the Central Executive Committee, expressed support for the deregulation policy but stressed the importance of proper consultation. He emphasized that deregulation should not be limited to fuel prices but should cover the entire oil sector.
Additionally, he distanced APPDA from Abdul Sami Khan, chairman of the Pakistan Petroleum Dealers Association (PPDA), asserting that their association is officially registered with the Ministry of Commerce. He also claimed that PPDA’s registration has been canceled.
The potential strike could lead to fuel shortages nationwide, impacting commuters, businesses, and supply chains. The outcome of the upcoming meeting will determine whether the strike proceeds as planned.
