Karachi – In a historic development, Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) has announced a profit of Rs. 11.5 billion for the first half of the current fiscal year, marking its first positive financial results in two decades.
The airline attributed the turnaround to aggressive cost-cutting measures, increased international flight operations, and improved management practices. Officials said that reforms under the government’s restructuring program have played a pivotal role in stabilizing the airline’s long-troubled finances.
“This profit is not just a number, it’s a reflection of the trust of our passengers and the dedication of our staff,” a PIA spokesperson said, adding that the airline aims to maintain profitability in the coming quarters.
Analysts noted that rising passenger demand and strategic partnerships have also boosted PIA’s revenues. However, they cautioned that maintaining this momentum will require long-term reforms, modernization of the fleet, and strict financial discipline.
The achievement has been welcomed by government officials, who hailed it as a positive sign for Pakistan’s struggling aviation sector.
