Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) has suspended another stewardess for allegedly smuggling expensive mobile phones into Pakistan. The incident comes in the wake of recent disciplinary actions taken against several crew members for similar offenses.
According to a PIA spokesperson, customs officials intercepted the stewardess at Lahore Airport upon her arrival on flight PK-264 from Dubai on Saturday. During the inspection, authorities recovered high-end smartphones from her possession. In response, PIA immediately suspended the stewardess and issued a show-cause notice, demanding a written explanation within three days. Further action will be determined based on her response and the findings of an ongoing investigation.
This latest incident follows a series of similar cases within the airline. Just last week, five crew members, including two stewardesses, were suspended after being caught red-handed with 78 smuggled smartphones during a routine check at Multan Airport. Among the confiscated items were several iPhone 16 Pro models. Customs authorities acted on prior intelligence, initially recovering 24 phones from two air hostesses and later discovering an additional 54 phones in the possession of male crew members called back from their hotel.
Earlier, PIA management had dismissed two crew members for similar smuggling allegations. The airline has vowed to uphold strict disciplinary measures to address such violations and ensure compliance with company policies and aviation regulations.
Authorities have assured that thorough investigations are being conducted into all cases, and individuals found guilty will face stringent action.
