In a groundbreaking decision aimed at enriching the spiritual experience of pilgrims, Saudi Arabia has announced that the revered area of Riyaz-ul-Jannah in the Prophet’s Mosque (Al-Masjid an-Nabawi) in Madinah will now be accessible year-round for offering Nawafil (voluntary prayers). Previously, pilgrims could only offer Nawafil prayers in this holy space during specific times, but the new initiative will allow worshippers to pray in this blessed area at any time of the year.
The Saudi Ministry of Hajj and Umrah, along with the General Presidency for the Affairs of the Prophet’s Mosque, made the announcement following numerous requests from devotees who wished to pray in the sacred space more freely. Riyaz-ul-Jannah, considered one of the most virtuous and sacred places within the mosque, is highly regarded by Muslims for its proximity to the Prophet Muhammad’s (PBUH) burial chamber.
The decision aims to accommodate the increasing number of pilgrims visiting the Kingdom for Umrah and other religious purposes, ensuring a deeper and more accessible connection to spirituality. The area is expected to remain open for Nawafil, allowing pilgrims to strengthen their faith through additional voluntary prayers while enhancing their overall religious experience during their visits to the Prophet’s Mosque.
This move is expected to bring significant relief to the large numbers of Muslims who have always desired the opportunity to offer prayers in the blessed Riyaz-ul-Jannah throughout the year.
