On Thursday, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and his Malaysian counterpart, Anwar Ibrahim, met in Islamabad and committed to enhancing cooperation between Pakistan and Malaysia, according to a report by Radio Pakistan.
PM Anwar Ibrahim arrived in Islamabad on Wednesday night for a three-day official visit, responding to an invitation from PM Shehbaz Sharif. Their meeting covered a range of bilateral, regional, and international issues, particularly focusing on challenges faced by the Muslim community worldwide.
Discussions between the two leaders centered on mechanisms to boost collaboration across multiple sectors, aiming for concrete outcomes. PM Ibrahim acknowledged Pakistan’s role as a Sectoral Dialogue Partner with the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) and expressed appreciation for Pakistan’s consistent engagement with the organization. PM Shehbaz, in turn, congratulated his counterpart on Malaysia’s upcoming chairmanship of ASEAN in 2025.
The Malaysian prime minister also voiced his support for increased engagement between Pakistan and ASEAN, advocating for Pakistan to assume a more significant role in the Southeast Asian forum.
Both leaders reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening mutually beneficial partnerships, recognizing the long history of cooperation between their nations. They highlighted the importance of continued dialogue, exchanges of official visits, and enhancing engagement through the Joint Ministerial Commission and bilateral consultations.
Ahead of the meeting, PM Shehbaz expressed his eagerness to further deepen ties between the two countries, noting on social media that the visit underscored their shared dedication to peace, prosperity, and regional development.
