In a significant move to address energy needs and promote sustainable solutions, the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) has announced plans to provide complimentary solar systems to deserving individuals nationwide. This initiative, unveiled by PPP leader Khurshid Shah in Sukkur, aims to equip households with solar systems capable of generating up to 300 units of electricity.
Speaking at a press conference, Shah highlighted the program’s alignment with the party’s election manifesto commitment to offer free electricity to consumers using up to 300 units of power upon assuming governmental responsibilities. However, he cautioned that the implementation of the program would require time due to its complexity.
This announcement from the PPP comes amidst similar pledges from other political parties in Pakistan. The Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N), for instance, had previously detailed plans to provide free electricity to consumers consuming up to 200 units.
Furthermore, the provincial government of Punjab, led by Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz, has recently unveiled an ambitious plan to distribute solar systems across the province. Named the “solar home solution program” and spearheaded by Chief Minister Nawaz, the initiative aims to equip households with state-of-the-art solar panels, inverters, batteries, and other essential components.
In a recent review meeting chaired by Chief Minister Nawaz, it was revealed that the first phase of the program would see 50,000 solar systems distributed. A substantial allocation of 12.6 billion rupees has been earmarked for the initial phase of program implementation.
These initiatives mark a significant step towards promoting renewable energy and addressing the energy needs of citizens in Pakistan, demonstrating a concerted effort by political parties to prioritize sustainable solutions.
