Prada, renowned for its cutting-edge innovation, is embarking on a mission that truly transcends fashion. The luxury Italian brand has partnered with Axiom Space to design a space suit for NASA’s Artemis III mission, marking a historic leap in both fashion and space exploration.
The Artemis III mission, set for September 2026, will be the first human moon landing since 1972, and it’s set to make history with the first woman and the first person of color walking on the moon. Prada’s collaboration with Axiom Space elevates this moment further, blending high-performance engineering with the Milanese brand’s iconic style.
Lorenzo Bertelli, Prada Group’s Chief Marketing Officer, emphasized the significance of this partnership: “Going beyond our limits is one of the company’s values that perfectly reflects the spirit of the Prada brand and my parents’ vision.” The brand’s expertise in high-performance materials and intricate sewing techniques has been utilized in this project, creating a suit designed for durability, flexibility, and protection.
The suits feature a predominantly white design, accented by geometric gray patterns on key areas like the knees, elbows, and backside, along with eye-catching red stripes. While the signature Prada logo is absent, the brand’s influence shines through in the details, including a nod to Prada’s Linea Rossa collection, known for its tech-forward designs.
Prada’s space suits are engineered for functionality, offering enhanced freedom of movement and protection against moon dust. This venture follows in the footsteps of iconic designers like Pierre Cardin and Paco Rabanne, who were influenced by the Apollo 11 mission in 1969. It also joins a growing trend of fashion brands entering the space race, with previous collaborations like Adidas’ Y-3 and Reebok’s space boot designs.
As space exploration programs advance, Prada’s participation in the Artemis III mission signifies the merging of fashion and technology on an unprecedented scale. The world will be watching as Prada takes this bold step into space, heralding a new era of intergalactic fashion.
