Islamabad, Tuesday – In a distinguished ceremony held at Aiwan-e-Sadr, President Dr. Arif Alvi conferred Pakistan’s highest civil award, ‘Nishan-e-Pakistan,’ upon Dr. Syedna Mufaddal Saifuddin, the spiritual leader of the Dawoodi Bohra community. The investiture ceremony, attended by prominent figures including Caretaker Foreign Minister Jalil Abbas Jilani, Senate Deputy Chairman Saleem Mandviwalla, and Sindh Governor Kamran Tessori, marked a significant recognition of Dr. Saifuddin’s outstanding contributions.
The conferment of the civil award was approved by the president last month under Article 259 (2) of the Constitution, a testament to Dr. Saifuddin’s remarkable achievements and dedicated service to the community. The citation read at the President’s House highlighted his role as the 53rd al-Dai al-Mutlaq and head of the Dawoodi Bohra community, whose global followers include a substantial number of Pakistani citizens.
Dr. Saifuddin’s commendable contributions were acknowledged, particularly his instrumental role in establishing the School of Law at the University of Karachi. Additionally, his efforts in launching a state-of-the-art university project in Pakistan were lauded.
The spiritual leader, accompanied by his family members, arrived in Karachi on November 20. Subsequently, on November 27, Dr. Saifuddin, along with caretaker Sindh Chief Minister Justice (retd) Maqbool Baqar, inaugurated the new building of the School of Law at the University of Karachi. The newly inaugurated building has been aptly named after Dr. Saifuddin in recognition of his significant contributions.
The conferment of Nishan-e-Pakistan upon Dr. Syedna Mufaddal Saifuddin not only honors his individual accomplishments but also underscores the Dawoodi Bohra community’s valuable contributions to education and societal development in Pakistan.
