Pro-Khalistan group, Sikhs For Justice (SFJ), responds to Indian government’s crackdown on Sikh Khalistani activists in the UK by amassing £250,000 for a Khalistan Referendum in Scotland in 2024. The move follows UK Security Minister’s visit to India and India’s efforts against pro-Khalistan activities.
Gurpatwant Singh Pannun, SFJ’s General Counsel, highlights the impact of the referendum on India and asserts the UK’s responsibility to safeguard Sikh people’s freedom of expression under its laws. SFJ announces a Khalistan Campaign Fund (KCF) of £250,000, paving the way for the referendum vote.
Amidst growing concerns of “pro-Khalistan extremism,” the UK’s Security Minister pledges £95,000 funding to counter the threat, enhancing joint efforts with India through a joint-extremism task force. The partnership reflects shared opportunities for global security and prosperity.
SFJ’s stance on August 15 as a day of slavery and genocide, rather than Independence Day, emphasizes the ongoing tension between the group and India. The Khalistan flag raised at the Indian Embassy in Washington DC further underscores this sentiment.
