Torkham, August 12, 2024 — Traders and transporters are protesting at the Torkham border for a second day, demanding quicker processing of temporary entry permits. The Customs Private Clearance Agents Association and the Transporters Union organized the demonstration to push for a faster system for issuing Temporary Admission Documents (TADs) for trucks traveling between Pakistan and Afghanistan.
Protesters say that delays of up to several months in getting these permits are hurting trade. Thousands of vehicles have been stuck at the border for a month due to these issues. Although recent changes have improved visa policies and introduced temporary permits, the ongoing delays are still causing problems.
The protesters are asking for immediate action to fix these delays. They have given authorities until Tuesday to meet their demands, warning that they will start a complete strike if the issues are not resolved.
