As Pakistan gears up for the upcoming general election, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) finds itself grappling with the Election Commission of Pakistan’s denial of the ‘bat’ symbol for its candidates. This unexpected hurdle has prompted PTI to adopt a unique approach to inform voters about their assigned symbols, especially with some party members contesting independently against official PTI candidates.
Initially seeking to share a database of symbols, PTI has now implemented an innovative solution featuring a message from the party’s leader, Imran Khan. The auto-response system on Imran Khan’s official Facebook page enables users to message their constituency number and promptly receive relevant information about their assigned symbols.
The party officially announced this novel initiative on its social media handles, stating, “Just send a message to Imran Khan’s official FB page with your constituency number, and you will receive the information within a few minutes.” Accompanying the announcement is a video tutorial to guide voters through the process.
Recognizing the potential confusion among supporters, PTI has also suggested using NADRA’s helpline 8300 to identify constituencies for those who are uncertain. Imran Khan’s Facebook page, where the auto-response feature is active, boasts a massive following of 14 million users.
This strategic move by PTI aims to streamline communication and assist supporters in navigating the unexpected change in symbols, ensuring a smooth and informed electoral process. The party’s commitment to utilizing technology to overcome challenges reflects its dedication to fostering transparency and public participation in the democratic process.
