Faisal Chaudhry, a senior lawyer and legal counsel for jailed former Prime Minister Imran Khan, was arrested on Friday outside Adiala Jail, a day after a video of him verbally abusing a police official went viral.
Chaudhry was reportedly angered on Thursday when prison authorities denied him access to meet Imran Khan. On Friday morning, an Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC) in Rawalpindi granted him permission to meet his client and instructed the jail superintendent to facilitate access for legal consultation.
The court order emphasized that lawyers, including Malik Waheed Anjum, Irfan Ahmed Khan Niazi, Faisal Chaudhry, and Imran Niazi—who had filed a power of attorney—should be granted access to the PTI founder for legal discussions regarding the case registered against him at RA Bazar Police Station.
However, as Faisal Chaudhry arrived at Adiala Jail in the afternoon, he was taken into custody. Reports indicate that he was moved to a police checkpost near the prison, with a heavy police contingent deployed to secure the area.
The arrest has sparked outrage among PTI supporters and legal circles, who view it as an attempt to intimidate Khan’s legal team. Authorities have not yet issued an official statement regarding the reason for Chaudhry’s arrest.
