slamabad, October 7, 2024: In a sharp critique of opposition party Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), Punjab caretaker Chief Minister Mohsin Naqvi accused the party of attempting to sabotage the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) summit hosted by Pakistan.
Speaking at a press conference earlier today, Naqvi alleged that PTI had been working behind the scenes to disrupt the international event, which is expected to bring together key leaders from across Asia. He said that certain elements within the party had been actively involved in efforts to create chaos and undermine the summit’s proceedings.
“PTI’s leadership had made a conscious effort to sabotage Pakistan’s international reputation and harm the successful hosting of the SCO summit,” Naqvi said. “They were involved in orchestrating protests and spreading false information to destabilize the political environment in the lead-up to this high-profile event.”
The remarks come amid growing political tension between the caretaker government and PTI, which has been vocal in its criticism of the government’s handling of key national issues. Naqvi further criticized the opposition party for attempting to create division at a time when Pakistan needed to project unity and stability on the global stage.
The SCO summit, which is set to take place later this month, is seen as a critical diplomatic event for Pakistan, as it seeks to strengthen ties with neighboring countries and global powers in the region.
PTI has yet to respond to the accusations, but party sources have denied any involvement in attempts to disrupt the summit. However, analysts suggest that political instability in Pakistan could present challenges for the smooth conduct of such high-level events.
As the summit draws nearer, all eyes are now on how the government handles both domestic and international pressures to ensure its success.
