The Chairman of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), Barrister Gohar Khan, announced on Wednesday the withdrawal of the party’s plea seeking the ‘bat’ symbol from the Supreme Court. Instead, the PTI is optimistic about receiving a favorable decision from the Peshawar High Court (PHC).
Speaking to the media outside the apex court, Barrister Gohar Khan stated, “Today, our petition was fixed at the Supreme Court, but we have withdrawn it.” He expressed confidence that the Peshawar High Court would rule in favor of the party in the ongoing case concerning the Election Commission of Pakistan’s (ECP) decision to nullify the intra-party election and revoke PTI’s symbol of a cricket bat—a symbol representing the party founder, Imran Khan’s cricket career.
Currently, a two-member bench of the Peshawar High Court is hearing PTI’s writ petition challenging the ECP’s decision. Barrister Gohar Khan anticipates a verdict from the PHC on Wednesday.
The backdrop of this development involves the Peshawar High Court accepting the ECP’s review petition, thereby reinstating the electoral authority’s ruling on intra-party polls and the election symbol of the PTI.
