The Punjab government has introduced new vehicle registration rules, making it easier for vehicle owners to register their cars in any district within the province, regardless of their place of residence.
Under the amended Motor Vehicles Ordinance 1965, residents are no longer restricted to registering vehicles in their home districts. Additionally, the government has allowed re-registration of vehicles from other provinces, including Sindh and Islamabad, into Punjab’s system. Vehicle owners seeking re-registration must obtain a No-Objection Certificate (NOC) from the original registering authority.
To encourage compliance, the re-registration fee has been set lower than the new registration fee. Moreover, Punjab will now recognize token taxes paid in other provinces to prevent double taxation for vehicle owners.
The Excise and Taxation Department is finalizing the rules and standard operating procedures (SOPs) for implementing these changes, which are expected to take effect next month. The government also plans to introduce digital payment options in the future to streamline the registration process.
These reforms aim to enhance convenience, increase revenue, and simplify the registration process for vehicle owners across Punjab.
