Lahore: The Punjab government has officially prohibited the use of mobile phones by both teachers and students in all government and private schools across the province, starting Tuesday.
The Punjab School Education Department implemented the decision following complaints about significant time wastage due to frequent mobile phone usage by teachers.
A senior official highlighted that the practice of recording and sharing videos on social media by both students and teachers was contributing to escalating concerns.
In addition to the mobile phone ban, the government has mandated that teachers adhere to a professional dress code during school hours, which includes wearing coats, proper footwear, and wristwatches.
The school department has issued 20 directives to chief executive officers of all district education authorities to enforce these measures.
As part of the new rules, teachers are required to submit their mobile phones to administration offices at the start of the school day. Any breach of the ban will result in phone confiscation and possible departmental action.
Students and teachers are also instructed to display their school badges and identification cards at all times, a measure aimed at promoting discipline and ensuring student welfare, according to the education ministry.
