The initiative, which seeks to phase out conventional fuel-powered motorcycles, will begin with public institutions and gradually extend to private users. Authorities are devising plans to offer subsidies and easy financing options to ensure affordability for citizens.
Chief Minister of Punjab stated, “This transition is essential for combating environmental challenges and reducing the financial burden on our people. Electric bikes are a step towards a cleaner, greener, and more sustainable Punjab.”
The decision comes as urban areas like Lahore grapple with hazardous air quality, primarily driven by vehicular emissions. Environmentalists have welcomed the move, urging swift implementation to mitigate the health and environmental impacts of air pollution.
