Lahore: In a major step towards sustainable energy, the Punjab government has launched a free solar panel program aimed at benefiting over 90,000 households across the province. The initiative is part of the government’s commitment to promoting renewable energy and reducing dependence on traditional power sources.
Under the program, eligible households will receive solar panels, inverters, and batteries at no cost, enabling them to generate their own electricity and cut down on high utility bills. The initiative is particularly focused on low-income families and areas facing frequent power outages.
Speaking at the launch event, Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz emphasized that the program would help ease the burden of rising electricity costs while contributing to a greener future. “This is a step towards energy independence for the people of Punjab. By harnessing solar power, we are not only reducing electricity expenses but also ensuring a sustainable future for generations to come,” she stated.
The initiative aligns with the federal government’s broader vision of expanding renewable energy sources across Pakistan. Authorities have urged citizens to register for the program through designated centers and online portals.
Experts believe that such initiatives can significantly boost Pakistan’s renewable energy capacity and reduce reliance on fossil fuels. If successful, the program could serve as a model for other provinces to adopt similar measures.
