In a bid to boost regional connectivity and tourism, the Punjab government has announced the launch of a groundbreaking glass train project linking Rawalpindi and Murree. This innovative venture aims to offer travelers a unique and scenic journey through one of Pakistan’s most picturesque areas.
The 65-kilometer rail route will begin at Saddar in Rawalpindi and travel through the breathtaking Margalla Hills and Barakahu, ultimately arriving in Murree’s popular hill station, Bhurban. The train will feature large glass windows, providing passengers with panoramic views of the stunning landscapes throughout their journey.
A specialized working group has been established to oversee the project, led by the province’s transport minister. The team includes the Rawalpindi commissioner, deputy commissioners from Rawalpindi and Murree, and various other key department heads. This group is tasked with ensuring smooth coordination and effective management of the project.
The feasibility study for the glass train project will be conducted by the National Engineering and Scientific Commission (NESCOM). The initiative received formal approval from Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz on June 29, 2024, as part of the broader Murree Development Plan.
With the project’s groundwork underway, the Punjab government is set to enhance the travel experience between Rawalpindi and Murree, offering both locals and tourists a new way to appreciate the natural beauty of the region.
