Lahore – The Punjab Transport Department has proposed an increase in the fare for electric buses operating in the province, citing rising operational costs and maintenance expenses. The department has forwarded its recommendation to the relevant authorities for approval.
Officials argue that the current fare structure is unsustainable given inflation and increasing electricity tariffs. However, the proposal has sparked concerns among commuters, who fear higher travel costs. Public transport users have urged the government to reconsider the decision and provide subsidies instead of raising fares.
If approved, the revised fare will be implemented across all electric bus routes in Punjab.
