Quetta, [05 Sept 2023] – In honor of the International Month of Breast Milk Awareness, a seminar was recently held at Civil Hospital Quetta. This pivotal event, organized with the invaluable support of the Department of Health Balochistan and UNICEF, as well as the Directorate Nutrition Cell Balochistan, aimed to disseminate crucial information about the significance of breast milk in infant nutrition.
Esteemed guests and experts graced the occasion, including Director Nutrition Dr. Naeemullah Zarkoon, Deputy Director Owais Tareen, Dr. Abid Provincial Nutrition Manager Sultan Tareen, Dr. Uzma Sohail, and Dr. Ruhana. The seminar attracted participants from various walks of life, including senior doctors and medical staff, who converged to amplify awareness about this vital subject.
Throughout the seminar, renowned doctors, medical experts, and participants delivered enlightening lectures on the manifold benefits of breast milk. Director Nutrition Balochistan, Dr. Naeem Zirkoon, passionately expressed his views during the event. He emphasized that children should be exclusively breastfed for the first six months of their lives, asserting that it is their fundamental right. Dr. Zirkoon further stressed that ensuring the provision of mother’s milk is a collective societal responsibility.
Dr. Zirkoon stated, “The primary goal of such seminars is to impart effective knowledge regarding the advantages of mother’s milk. Babies should initiate supplementary feeding after the age of six months, as mother’s milk is indispensable for their healthy development. Simultaneously, additional nutritional sources become essential.”
In his address, Dr. Zirkoon also called upon all stakeholders, including the media, religious scholars, and academics, to play an active role in spreading awareness about the benefits of breast milk and its proper utilization. The seminar concluded with a renewed commitment to promoting breastfeeding as a cornerstone of infant health and development.
