In a move aimed at providing relief to passengers, the railway authorities have announced significant reductions in train fares across various distances. Effective immediately, commuters traveling distances ranging from 1 kilometre to 200 kilometres will benefit from the fare adjustments.
Economy class fares on select trains have witnessed a remarkable reduction of up to 54%, while fares for air-conditioned classes have been slashed by 40%. Notably, the minimum fare for the economy class on the Lahore to Rawalpindi route has been notably decreased from Rs250 to Rs100, marking a substantial decrease.
This reduction in fares comes in the wake of a notable decline in diesel prices. On May 15th, the price of diesel experienced a significant reduction of Rs7.88, bringing it down to Rs274.08 per litre.
The announcement of reduced train fares coincides with the introduction of new prices, effective today, May 21st. This move is expected to positively impact commuters across the nation, providing them with more affordable travel options.
In related news, Pakistan Railways has recently restored the Awam Express from Peshawar to Karachi, and also unveiled plans for two special trains to operate during Eid festivities. However, amidst these developments, the nation mourns the tragic loss of 30 lives as a train derailed in Sindh’s Nawabshah.
