Islamabad, September 13, 2023 – The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has issued a weather forecast predicting the arrival of rain and thunderstorms in the upper parts of the country from September 15 to September 20. According to the PMD statement released on Wednesday, moderate monsoon currents from the Bay of Bengal are expected to penetrate the upper regions of Pakistan, starting on the evening of September 15.
Additionally, a westerly wave is projected to enter these areas on September 16, intensifying the weather conditions.
Under the influence of these meteorological factors, the following regions are likely to experience rain, wind, and thunderstorms with occasional heavy falls:
September 15 to September 20:
- Kashmir (Neelum valley, Muzaffarabad, Poonch, Hattian, Bagh, Haveli, Sudhanoti, Kotli, Bhimber, Mirpur)
- Gilgit Baltistan (Diamir, Astore, Ghizer, Skardu, Hunza, Gilgit, Ghanche, Shigar)
- Murree and Galliyat
- Islamabad and Rawalpindi
- Attock, Chakwal, Jhelum
- Mandi Bahauddin, Hafizabad, Gujranwala, Gujrat, Sialkot, Narowal
- Lahore, Kasur, Sheikhupura
- Chitral, Dir, Swat, Shangla, Buner
- Mansehra, Kohistan, Abbottabad, Haripur
- Kohat, Peshawar, Mardan, Swabi, Nowshera
September 16 to September 18:
- Kurram, Lakki Marwat, Dera Ismail Khan, Bannu, Karak, Waziristan
- Mianwali, Sargodha, Khushab, Faisalabad, Toba Tek Singh, Jhang, Bhakkar
During the period:
- Dera Ghazi Khan, Rajanpur, Musa Khel, Barkhan, Zhob, Kalat
- Khuzdar, Mirpurkhas, Khairpur, Tharparkar, Umer Kot, Sanghar
Advisory: Moderate to heavy rainfall may lead to increased water flows in local Nullahs and streams in various regions including Kashmir, Gilgit-Baltistan, Chitral, Dir, Swat, Kohistan, Shangla, Buner, Mansehra, Abbottabad, Galliyat, Murree, Rawalpindi, and Islamabad from September 17 to 19. Additionally, there is a risk of landslides in vulnerable areas of Murree, Galliyat, Kashmir, Gilgit Baltistan, Chitral, Dir, Swat, Kohistan, Shangla, Buner, Mansehra, and Abbottabad during the wet spell from September 16 to 19. The PMD also noted that prevailing very hot and humid conditions are likely to subside during this weather event.
Residents of the affected regions are advised to stay updated with weather alerts and take necessary precautions to ensure their safety during these adverse weather conditions.
