Islamabad: The Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee has announced that the Ramadan moon has not been sighted in Pakistan today. As a result, the first fast of Ramadan 1446 Hijri will be observed on Sunday, March 2, 2025.
The committee, led by Chairman Maulana Abdul Khabir Azad, held a meeting in Peshawar to receive moon sighting reports from across the country. Representatives from zonal committees, the meteorological department, and SUPARCO confirmed that no credible testimonies were received regarding the sighting of the crescent moon.
According to the Pakistan Meteorological Department, the chances of moon sighting were very low due to the crescent’s age and positioning. In Karachi, for example, the moon’s age at sunset was approximately 12 hours, making it difficult to be visible to the naked eye.
Meanwhile, Saudi Arabia and several other countries, including the UAE, Indonesia, and Malaysia, have confirmed the sighting of the Ramadan moon, and their first fast will be observed on Saturday, March 1, 2025.
With Ramadan just a day away, mosques across Pakistan are making preparations for Taraweeh prayers and special religious gatherings. The public is encouraged to engage in prayers, charity, and acts of kindness to embrace the spiritual significance of the holy month.
