Islamabad: Adviser to the Prime Minister on Political Affairs, Rana Sanaullah, has stated that the release of Aafia Siddiqui by the United States could pave the way for discussions about the PTI founder, Imran Khan.
Speaking on Geo News’ program Aaj Shahzeb Khanzada Kay Saath, Rana Sanaullah emphasized the need for balanced negotiations between nations. “It cannot be that we agree to all their demands or they agree to all ours. Immediate meetings or resolutions are not how such matters work,” he remarked.
Addressing Imran Khan’s detention, Sanaullah underscored the government’s adherence to the law and constitution. “If someone is in judicial custody and undergoing trial, how can the government intervene? There are legal proceedings, FIRs, and investigations conducted by the police and other institutions,” he explained.
He further reiterated that Pakistan’s decisions would not be swayed by external pressure, particularly referencing former U.S. President Donald Trump. “We are not going to act on tweets or statements. Pakistan operates under its own sovereign framework,” he asserted.
Highlighting the case of Dr. Aafia Siddiqui, who has been imprisoned in the United States for years, Rana Sanaullah said, “We will raise this issue as well. If the United States releases Aafia Siddiqui, only then can we consider discussions about the PTI founder.”
The senior PML-N leader also called for dialogue at the national level. “There should be mutual discussions between the government and the opposition, independent of external factors or foreign pressure,” he added.
The remarks have sparked political debate, with analysts speculating on their implications for both domestic politics and Pakistan’s foreign relations with the United States.
