A rare pod of four Bryde’s whales has been spotted off the coast of Gwadar, marking an exciting development for marine conservation in Pakistan. The sighting, confirmed by local fishermen and marine biologists, occurred earlier this week in the Arabian Sea, a few kilometers from the Gwadar coastline in Balochistan.
According to experts, Bryde’s whales are warm-water baleen whales that are rarely observed in Pakistani waters. Their appearance suggests improving marine conditions and a potentially richer food supply in the region.
Marine researchers from the National Institute of Oceanography (NIO) and WWF-Pakistan are monitoring the area to document whale behavior and ensure their safety from shipping activity and fishing nets.
Environmentalists have praised the event as a sign of healthy marine ecosystems returning to Pakistan’s coastal belt, calling for stronger conservation efforts to protect these endangered species.
The sighting adds Gwadar to the growing list of global marine biodiversity hotspots, highlighting the ecological significance of Pakistan’s Arabian Sea waters.
