Gwadar, Balochistan: Relief and rescue operations are in full swing in Gwadar after the city experienced over 180 millimetres of rain in the past two days, leading to widespread flooding. The Balochistan government declared Gwadar a calamity-hit area, prompting emergency measures to assist affected residents.
Officials from the Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) and various other institutions are actively engaged in relief efforts. PDMA Director General Jahanzeb Khan stated that the situation in Gwadar is challenging due to the significant rainfall, with 187mm recorded in the last two days alone.
Efforts are focused on draining the accumulated water, with the Pakistan Army, Navy, and district administration playing pivotal roles. Evacuations of flooded homes are underway, ensuring the safety of residents. Khan cautioned that the rainfall is expected to continue for the next two days.
Meanwhile, the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) issued a weather forecast for Balochistan, predicting heavy rain, windstorms, and thunderstorms in several districts, including Nokkundi, Turbat, Khuzdar, and Quetta.
Sindh Prepares for Severe Weather Conditions
Karachi, Sindh: As Sindh braces for rough weather conditions, Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah imposed a rain emergency across the province. Karachi has been particularly affected, with heavy rainfall leading to urban flooding in low-lying areas.
The PMD warned of potential urban flooding due to heavy falls, advising caution for fishermen. Chief Minister Shah conducted surprise visits to inspect dewatering machinery and ensure preparedness. Mayor Murtaza Wahab confirmed the deployment of 53 suction vehicles across Karachi to clear rainwater.
Commissioner Saleem Rajput assured that the administration is fully prepared to mitigate damages, urging citizens to avoid unnecessary travel and stay away from electricity infrastructure. Karachi’s Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Zeeshan Shafiq Siddiqui instructed officers to remain vigilant, emphasizing assistance for stranded families and traffic management.
The situation remains critical in both Gwadar and Karachi as authorities continue their efforts to manage the aftermath of the heavy rainfall. Citizens are advised to stay updated on weather alerts and follow safety guidelines issued by authorities.
