India has mobilized four ships and two aircraft to search for three Coast Guard members missing after their helicopter crashed into the Arabian Sea on Tuesday, September 3. The incident occurred during a rescue operation late Monday night, approximately 45 kilometers off the Gujarat coast.
According to the Indian Coast Guard, the helicopter was engaged in a mission to rescue an injured crew member from an Indian-flagged tanker when it was forced to make an emergency hard landing and ditched into the sea. The wreckage of the helicopter has been located, but the search for the missing members is still ongoing.
So far, one crew member has been recovered. The helicopter’s crew had recently participated in rescue operations related to flash floods in Gujarat in late August, which resulted in the deaths of at least 28 people. The ongoing search effort underscores the continued risks and challenges faced by rescue personnel in the region.
