The federal government has spent Rs. 330 million on security measures in Islamabad to maintain law and order during the recent protests organized by the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) party. The funds were directed towards deploying additional law enforcement personnel, setting up barricades, and enhancing surveillance throughout key areas of the city.
As political tensions escalated with PTI’s mass protests calling for early elections, the government prioritized the safety of citizens, public property, and government buildings. Over 15,000 security personnel, including police, Rangers, and personnel from the Frontier Corps, were stationed across the capital city. Special units were also deployed to monitor protest sites with drones and surveillance cameras to prevent any violence.
The government’s heavy investment in security has raised concerns over the financial burden of maintaining public order amid growing political instability. However, officials have stressed that ensuring peace and protecting the city’s infrastructure was the top priority.
The PTI protests have sparked debates over the allocation of resources and the broader impact of ongoing political unrest on the economy. As the situation remains tense, both the government and PTI leaders are calling for dialogue to resolve the crisis without further escalation.
