Russia has announced the expansion of its electronic visa (e-visa) program to citizens of 64 countries, marking a significant step toward simplifying entry procedures and boosting tourism. The program, which enables foreign nationals to apply for a visa online without visiting consulates, is set to make travel to Russia more accessible.
Under this initiative, travelers can apply for single-entry visas for tourism, business, humanitarian, or guest visits. The e-visas are valid for stays of up to 16 days and cover entry through various Russian checkpoints, including airports, seaports, and land borders.
Countries included in the expanded list range across Europe, Asia, and the Middle East, such as Germany, China, Turkey, Saudi Arabia, and Japan. However, the United States, Canada, and the United Kingdom remain excluded from the program.
The move aims to revive Russia’s tourism industry, which has faced challenges in recent years due to global political tensions and the pandemic. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs expressed optimism that the expanded program would “foster stronger cultural and economic ties” with participating nations.
Travelers can apply for the e-visa via a dedicated government portal, where processing times are typically short, making it a convenient option for many.
This development is part of Russia’s broader strategy to enhance its global engagement while adapting to evolving travel trends.
