Popular reality show India’s Got Latent, hosted by comedian Samay Raina, is embroiled in legal controversy after contestant Jessy Nabam made remarks about dog meat consumption in Arunachal Pradesh.
During a members-only episode, Raina asked Nabam if she had ever eaten dog meat. Nabam responded, “The people of Arunachal Pradesh consume it, though I have never tasted it myself.” She further added, “I know because my friends eat it. They even eat their pets at times,” prompting shock from the panel.
While Raina appeared taken aback, comedian Balraj Singh Ghai questioned the authenticity of her claim. Nabam, however, stood by her statement.
The comments sparked widespread outrage, particularly from residents of Arunachal Pradesh, who condemned them as derogatory and misleading. In response, a First Information Report (FIR) was filed against Nabam by Armaan Ram Welly Bakha, a resident of Arunachal Pradesh. The FIR, dated January 31, 2025, was lodged at Itanagar Police Station, accusing Nabam of making offensive remarks about indigenous communities.
The complainant has urged authorities to take swift action to prevent similar incidents in the future. Meanwhile, the show’s producers and Samay Raina have yet to issue an official statement on the controversy.
This incident has reignited debates about cultural sensitivity and representation in Indian media.
