Muslims worldwide are eagerly gearing up for the highly anticipated month of Ramadan, a period of spiritual reflection, fasting, and community engagement. While the approximate start date of the lunar month is set for March, a noteworthy prediction by Ibrahim Al Jarwan, Chairman of the Board of the Emirates Astronomy Society, suggests that the first roza (fast) in Saudi Arabia could commence on March 11.
According to Al Jarwan, Saudi Arabia is poised to witness a distinctive Ramadan experience this year, as the holy month is set to coincide with the summer season for the first time in 26 years. The summer season is projected to begin on December 22 and conclude on March 20. This seasonal alignment is expected to persist until 2031, after which Ramadan will revert to the winter season for eight years, spanning from 2031 to 2039.
The duration of each fast varies across the globe, with the fasting period extending from sunrise to sunset. This year, the fasting duration in Saudi Arabia is estimated to range between 13 and 15 hours, while globally, it could span from 12 to 17 hours.
Considering the predicted commencement date of Ramadan, Eid-ul Fitar, the joyous festival marking the end of Ramadan, is anticipated to fall around April 10 or 11. As Muslims prepare for this unique Ramadan experience, the community eagerly awaits the spiritual and communal blessings that come with the holy month.
