In a groundbreaking move to elevate the Gulf of Aqaba region as a premier destination for sport, leisure, and tourism, Saudi Arabia’s NEOM project has unveiled its latest satellite development, the Aquellum mountainside resort. The ambitious coastal development is poised to set new standards in luxury and innovation, featuring a unique concept of “zero gravity urbanism.”
Aquellum, nestled within a 1,480-foot mountain, boasts an array of upscale amenities, including luxury retail outlets, high-end hotels, art galleries, and a sunken marina design. The resort is strategically located within close proximity to fellow satellite resorts Leyja, Epicon, and Siranna, forming a collective haven for travelers seeking unparalleled experiences.
Guests will embark on a distinctive arrival journey, entering the resort via boat through a concealed canal entryway at the base of the development. At the heart of Aquellum lies a central ‘experiential boulevard,’ serving as the main artery for the socially condensing courtyard space within the 330-foot-tall above-ground component.
Adding a touch of innovation, Aquellum introduces ‘The Generator,’ a dedicated space designed as an incubator for startups and creative services businesses. Positioned as a platform to reimagine the future, this innovation hub aligns with NEOM’s commitment to fostering technological advancements and forward-thinking initiatives.
Renowned architects Tobias Wallisser and Alexander Rieck from LAVA: Laboratory for Visionary Architecture lead the design of Aquellum, with Nathalie Rozencwajg, founder of London-based NAME architecture, describing it as “the metaverse that you can physically experience.”
NEOM’s commitment to continuous expansion is evident with the introduction of Norlana, another satellite development, and the unveiling of the Utamo events space along the Gulf of Aqaba. The project has also diversified its portfolio by acquiring a professional soccer franchise and establishing Topian, a new food production company, showcasing NEOM’s dedication to creating a multifaceted and dynamic destination.
As NEOM solidifies its position as a global hub for innovation and luxury, Aquellum stands as a testament to Saudi Arabia’s vision for redefining the boundaries of modern resort living and immersive experiences.
