Prince Al-Waleed bin Khalid bin Talal, famously known as the “Sleeping Prince” of Saudi Arabia, has passed away at the age of 36 after spending nearly 20 years in a coma.
The prince fell into a coma in 2005 following a severe car accident in London during his cadet training. The incident caused a critical brain hemorrhage and left him in a vegetative state. Despite his condition, his family continued to care for him and kept him on life support, occasionally sharing moments of minimal physical response such as finger movements.
His father, Prince Khalid bin Talal, consistently expressed hope for his recovery and resisted medical advice to remove life support. The royal family officially confirmed his death and offered prayers, sharing a verse from the Qur’an to honor his memory.
Funeral prayers were held in Riyadh, attended by family members and well-wishers. The passing of the “Sleeping Prince” has drawn widespread sympathy and mourning across the Kingdom and beyond.
