MURREE: Local authorities have imposed Section 144 in Murree for three days, from February 8 to 10, prohibiting all gatherings, processions, rallies, and sit-ins, Express News reported.
The notification follows the announcement by Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) to hold a rally in Swabi on February 8. However, PTI General Secretary Salman Akram Raja clarified that the party’s demonstration would remain confined to Swabi and would be peaceful, with no intention of causing disruption.
“We are not interested in causing any trouble. Our protests are peaceful, and we remain committed to standing against the oppressive policies of the government,” Raja stated during a media interaction in Islamabad. He also denounced what he called “false cases” against PTI members, claiming they were being used as intimidation tactics.
Meanwhile, PTI’s request to hold a rally at Minar-e-Pakistan was recently denied by the District Commissioner (DC) due to security concerns and other scheduled events, including an international conference and a cricket match.
Raja expressed confidence that Maulana Fazlur Rehman would side with the public in opposing the government’s actions, calling him a “seasoned politician who understands the people’s concerns.”
The imposition of Section 144 in Murree is seen as a precautionary measure by authorities to prevent any unforeseen incidents amid the ongoing political tensions.
