Senior lawyer Shah Khawar is poised to assume the role of acting chairman of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), succeeding Zaka Ashraf, who resigned from his post on January 19. Khawar, who previously served as the election commissioner of the PCB, was chosen to lead the cricket board after the resignation of Ashraf, prompted by Pakistan’s challenging performance against New Zealand in the concluded T20 series.
Official sources confirm that Shah Khawar is set to formally take charge tomorrow (Wednesday) and is expected to announce the PCB governing board following consultations with key stakeholders. Additionally, an election for the permanent PCB chief is scheduled to be held in the first week of February.
Sources close to the matter also suggest that Punjab’s caretaker Chief Minister, Mohsin Naqvi, is likely to be nominated as a member of the PCB’s Board of Governors by the patron-in-chief.
The appointment of Shah Khawar is anticipated to bring stability and strategic direction to the PCB, as he assumes a critical role in navigating the challenges and responsibilities associated with Pakistan’s cricket administration. The cricketing community is eagerly awaiting the outcomes of the upcoming PCB chief election and the subsequent decisions that will shape the future trajectory of Pakistan’s cricketing landscape.
