Senior Minister for Information and Transport, Sharjeel Memon, has extended an official invitation to a leading Chinese electric vehicle (EV) bus manufacturer to establish a state-of-the-art production facility in Karachi. This move is part of the Sindh government’s efforts to promote sustainable transport solutions and support the growth of the electric vehicle industry in the region.
Speaking at a press conference, Minister Memon emphasized the growing demand for eco-friendly public transportation options in Pakistan and expressed confidence that the collaboration with Chinese manufacturers could pave the way for a cleaner, more energy-efficient future. “Karachi, as Pakistan’s economic hub, offers the ideal environment for such a high-tech initiative. The establishment of an EV bus manufacturing plant will not only boost the local economy but also contribute to reducing pollution and addressing the city’s transportation challenges,” Memon said.
The potential partnership aligns with Pakistan’s national goals of reducing carbon emissions and promoting green energy solutions. The plant, if established, would also create significant employment opportunities for local workers and open doors for further technological advancements in the EV sector.
The Chinese manufacturer, whose name has yet to be disclosed, is known for its cutting-edge electric bus technologies and has been actively expanding its presence in global markets. Minister Memon’s invitation marks a significant step towards strengthening bilateral trade relations between Pakistan and China, particularly in the field of renewable energy and sustainable mobility.
Discussions between the Sindh government and the Chinese company are expected to continue in the coming weeks, with both parties keen to finalize terms for the establishment of the plant.
The announcement has been met with optimism from industry experts, who believe the move will revolutionize urban transportation and help Karachi take a significant step toward environmental sustainability.
