Despite a string of back-to-back super hits for Bollywood icon Shah Rukh Khan this year, his latest release, ‘Dunki,’ failed to dazzle at the box office, collecting a modest Rs30 crore on its opening day. In contrast to the staggering success of SRK’s earlier releases like ‘Jawan’ and ‘Pathan,’ which collectively amassed over Rs1000 crores worldwide, ‘Dunki’ fell short, raising concerns about the actor’s recent box office performance.
Released on Thursday, ‘Dunki’ secured the seventh spot among the biggest films of the year on domestic screens, trailing behind blockbusters like ‘Jawan,’ ‘Animal,’ ‘Pathaan,’ ‘Tiger 3,’ ‘Gadar 2,’ and ‘Adipurush.’ While the opening figures marked a dip for SRK, it surpassed the lackluster performance of ‘Zero,’ which opened with Rs19.35 crore and accumulated Rs90.28 crore during its entire run.
Despite being SRK’s lowest opening in recent times, ‘Dunki’ fared better than other recent releases, including ‘Kisi Ka Bhai Kisi Ki Jaan’ (Rs15.81 crore), ‘Tu Jhoothi Main Makkaar’ (Rs15.73 crore), ‘Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani’ (Rs11.1 crore), and ‘Dream Girl 2’ (Rs10.69 crore).
However, the real competition for ‘Dunki’ seems to be coming from Prabhas starrer ‘Salaar,’ which is set to outpace SRK’s film by a significant margin. ‘Salaar,’ released in multiple languages across the country, is expected to cross the Rs 60 crore mark on its opening day, posing a considerable challenge for ‘Dunki’ to capture the local screen.
The industry is keenly watching the box office battle between these two highly anticipated releases, with fans eagerly awaiting the fate of Shah Rukh Khan’s ‘Dunki’ in the face of tough competition from ‘Salaar.’
