LAHORE – 21 October 2025:
In a major development in Pakistan cricket, star pacer Shaheen Shah Afridi is likely to be appointed as the new captain of the national ODI team, according to reports from the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB).
Sources close to the board revealed that Afridi’s leadership qualities, consistency, and on-field aggression have impressed selectors, making him the top contender to lead Pakistan in the upcoming ODI series.
The move is reportedly part of the PCB’s broader plan to rebuild and rejuvenate the national side following recent performances and team reshuffles.
“Shaheen has shown great maturity and a strong sense of responsibility both on and off the field,”
said a senior PCB official, adding that the final decision is expected to be announced after consultations with the selection committee and coaching staff.
Afridi, who already captained Pakistan in T20s and led the Lahore Qalandars to PSL glory, is considered one of the most respected figures in Pakistan’s current lineup.
If confirmed, he would replace the current ODI skipper ahead of the team’s next international assignment, expected later this year.
Fans and analysts have largely welcomed the reports, viewing Afridi’s potential promotion as a step toward a more aggressive and modern style of leadership in Pakistan cricket.
