Karachi has witnessed a troubling surge in kidnapping cases, with children increasingly becoming victims, sparking widespread concern among residents.
Recent Cases
The most recent incidents include the disappearance of a 15-year-old girl, Zahra Batool, from Gulshan-e-Iqbal, and a 10-year-old boy, Ayan, from Orangi Town. Both children are still missing, and their families are desperately seeking their safe return. Zahra was reported missing on January 17, with her father filing a police complaint the same day.
Recoveries Provide Limited Relief
While some children have been successfully recovered, safety concerns persist.
- Mubashir (14): Missing from Orangi Town’s Frontier Colony, he was found in Agra Taj Colony. His family received an anonymous call revealing his location, and the police are now investigating.
- 4-Year-Old Girl: Disappeared while playing outside her house in the Sir Syed area but was later recovered safely.
Ongoing Investigations
Efforts continue in the case of 5-year-old Aliyan (Ali) and 6-year-old Ali Raza, who vanished from Garden West. Police have detained 19 suspects and identified a man and a woman on a motorcycle as prime suspects using CCTV footage.
A Tragic Outcome
In a heartbreaking incident, the body of 7-year-old Sarim, who had been missing for 11 days, was discovered in an underground water tank near his home in North Karachi on January 18. Authorities confirmed Sarim was sexually assaulted before his death, further heightening fears about child safety in the city.
Police Response
Deputy Inspector General South Syed Asad Raza assured the public that investigations are ongoing, and efforts are being intensified to recover the missing children.
Public Concerns
These incidents have sparked alarm across Karachi, with parents demanding stricter security measures and rapid responses from law enforcement to protect the city’s children.
