Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) lawmaker Sher Afzal Marwat has vowed to speak to the national media today (Thursday) after his expulsion from the party last night.
Marwat, known for his outspoken nature, expressed disappointment over the decision, attributing it to party insiders who had “never accepted” him.
“I have always remained loyal to PTI and Khan Sahib, and I continue to stand by my principles. I am deeply saddened by the recent decision, which seems influenced by individuals who have never accepted me within the party,” he stated on social media platform X.
Despite the expulsion, Marwat reiterated his allegiance to PTI’s founder Imran Khan, emphasizing that his loyalty was to the party’s vision rather than internal factions.
The PTI Additional Secretary General Firdous Shamim Naqvi issued the expulsion notification, reportedly on the direct instructions of the jailed former prime minister.
Controversy Over Expulsion
Sources suggest that the decision followed complaints from multiple PTI leaders about Marwat’s conduct at a recent political rally in Swabi, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. His criticism of fellow party member Salman Akram Raja during a live TV show also contributed to tensions within the party.
Marwat had been served a show-cause notice for his remarks but defended himself, claiming he had been among those who stood by PTI during its most difficult times.
“I recognize the immense challenges Khan Sahib faces, including limited access to information and the presence of individuals who may not always act in the party’s best interest,” Marwat added.
He urged PTI leaders and workers to “speak up against injustice”, maintaining that he would never compromise on the truth. While he stated that he would accept the decision with dignity if not reconsidered, he emphasized his commitment to the party’s founding principles.
Marwat is expected to publicly clarify his position in a media address later today. His remarks could further expose internal divisions within PTI at a time when the party is already facing political and legal challenges.
