The Sindh Education Department has announced a four-day closure of educational institutions in certain areas of Karachi due to the upcoming International Defence Exhibition and Seminar (IDEAS) 2024. The decision, reported by Express News, will affect schools and colleges near key routes, including Shahrah-e-Faisal and Habib Ibrahim Road, from November 19 to 22.
A notification from the Sindh Education Department confirmed the temporary closure as part of enhanced security and traffic management measures. This follows a formal request by the Deputy Inspector General (DIG) of Traffic to the Karachi Commissioner, emphasizing the necessity of school closures around the Expo Centre to mitigate logistical disruptions during the event.
IDEAS 2024, one of the region’s largest biennial defence exhibitions, will be held at the Expo Centre, featuring an opening ceremony and comprehensive defence-related seminars for both local and international participants. Additional public events include a special show at the Pakistan Monument on Clifton’s Sea View.
The last IDEAS event took place in 2022 and drew significant global interest. This year’s iteration promises a similarly robust turnout, showcasing advanced defence technologies and equipment from around the world.
Local residents and commuters are advised to stay informed about traffic updates and plan accordingly during the exhibition period.
