In a bid to support the agricultural community and alleviate the financial challenges faced by farmers, the Sindh provincial government has launched the Benazir Haari Card, a new initiative aimed at providing direct cash assistance to farmers in the region.
The card, named after the late Benazir Bhutto, is designed to offer targeted financial aid to farmers, particularly small-scale landowners and tenant farmers, who have been struggling due to inflation, natural disasters, and increasing production costs. The initiative is expected to benefit thousands of farmers across Sindh, providing them with much-needed financial relief to improve their agricultural output and sustain their livelihoods.
Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah, during the launch event, emphasized the importance of supporting the agriculture sector, which remains the backbone of the province’s economy. “The Benazir Haari Card will be a game-changer for our farmers, helping them cope with the rising costs of inputs and ensuring that they can continue their vital work,” Shah stated.
The card will offer cash transfers directly into the bank accounts of registered farmers, enabling them to purchase essential farming inputs such as seeds, fertilizers, and pesticides. The initiative will also assist in covering the costs associated with irrigation and other agricultural expenses.
The provincial government has partnered with various financial institutions and agricultural organizations to ensure smooth implementation of the program. To qualify for the Benazir Haari Card, farmers must meet specific criteria, including land size, income level, and crop production history.
In addition to providing immediate financial relief, the program aims to foster long-term sustainability in Sindh’s agricultural sector. Authorities plan to expand the scope of the card in the coming years, incorporating more farmers and diversifying the support offered to include agricultural training, modern farming techniques, and access to market linkages.
Farmers who have already registered for the program are expected to start receiving benefits in the coming weeks, with additional outreach campaigns scheduled to ensure widespread participation.
This new initiative is being hailed as a step toward addressing the systemic challenges facing Sindh’s agricultural community and ensuring the prosperity of one of the province’s most vital sectors.
