KARACHI: Sindh’s Information and Transport Minister, Sharjeel Memon, unveiled ambitious plans for transformative infrastructure and economic projects during a press conference held in Karachi.
Bullet Train Project to Link Karachi and Sukkur
Memon announced a groundbreaking bullet train project to connect Karachi and Sukkur, aiming to revolutionize transportation within Sindh. The initiative, to be implemented in two phases, is part of a broader strategy to enhance connectivity and modernize the province’s transport infrastructure.
Local Bus Production Plant to Generate Jobs
In addition to the bullet train, Memon revealed plans for a manufacturing plant in Karachi dedicated to producing affordable buses. This initiative is expected to generate significant employment opportunities for the local population while improving public transportation services across Sindh.
Sindh Attracts Record Foreign Investment
Highlighting Sindh’s economic progress, Memon stated that the province has secured the highest level of foreign investment in Pakistan. A recent meeting between the Sindh Chief Minister and foreign investors focused on fostering economic growth and creating jobs, with notable developments including a $1 billion investment in the medical sector and the expansion of the Dhabeji Foreign Economic Zone, expected to create 50,000 jobs.
Criticism of Opposition and Political Issues
Memon criticized the opposition, particularly the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) party, accusing its leadership of undermining national interests and promoting foreign agendas. He cited past actions, such as calls for civil disobedience and damage to national assets like PTV and Radio Pakistan, as evidence of this claim.
Regarding speculation about threats to PTI founder Imran Khan, Memon stated he had no information on the matter, suggesting that former minister Faisal Vawda might be better informed.
Commitment to Welfare and Growth
Concluding the session, Memon reiterated the Sindh government’s dedication to improving the welfare of its citizens, boosting employment, and creating an environment conducive to investment and economic development.
These announcements reflect Sindh’s commitment to infrastructure and economic reforms, aiming to position the province as a hub for innovation and growth in Pakistan.
