Environmental experts have warned that smog levels are expected to rise across Pakistan this winter, particularly in major urban and industrial regions such as Lahore, Faisalabad, and Karachi. The increase is attributed to seasonal temperature drops, stagnant air, and rising pollution from vehicles, factories, and crop residue burning.
According to the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD), reduced wind activity during winter months traps pollutants close to the ground, creating hazardous air quality conditions. Authorities have urged citizens to take preventive measures, including wearing masks, avoiding unnecessary outdoor activities, and limiting vehicle emissions.
The Punjab government has announced plans to intensify anti-smog operations, including strict monitoring of factories and bans on crop burning. Health experts have also issued warnings about respiratory issues that could worsen during the smog season.
