Islamabad, September 2, 2024 – The National Assembly was updated on Friday regarding the financial contributions of major social media platforms to Pakistan’s economy. According to Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb, the combined sales revenue from Google, Facebook, and WhatsApp for the fiscal year 2023-24 totaled Rs 7.129 billion.
In response to a query by Wajiha Qamar, the Finance Minister revealed that the revenue figures were based on records from the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR). Specifically, Google led with a substantial Rs 6.876 billion in sales revenue. In contrast, Facebook and WhatsApp together contributed Rs 343 million.
The tax collection from these platforms for the same period amounted to Rs 785 million. This information underscores the significant financial impact of global social media companies on the Pakistani market and the role of these revenues in the country’s fiscal landscape.
