The hit South Korean drama Squid Game will return to Netflix for its third and final season on June 27, the streaming giant announced during its Next on Netflix event on Thursday.
Fans got a sneak peek at the upcoming season through a short clip that teases another high-stakes, tension-filled moment within the deadly competition.
Squid Game’s Global Impact
Since its debut in 2021, Squid Game has been a global phenomenon, breaking records and becoming Netflix’s most-watched original series in its first month. The gripping survival thriller attracted 142 million households, significantly boosting Netflix’s subscriber numbers.
The series follows protagonist Seong Gi-hun, played by Lee Jung-jae, as he navigates a dystopian game where contestants compete in life-or-death challenges to erase financial debt. Season 3 will see him determined to put an end to the deadly games once and for all.
The return of Squid Game, along with major live events like the Jake Paul vs. Mike Tyson boxing match and two NFL games on Christmas Day, helped Netflix add a record-breaking 19 million subscribers in the fourth quarter, bringing its total subscriber base to nearly 302 million globally.
