Karachi: The State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) has instructed 15 designated banks nationwide to keep their branches open this weekend—Saturday, November 30, and Sunday, December 1, 2024—to facilitate the submission of Hajj 2025 applications.
Operating hours will be from 9:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., allowing intending pilgrims to complete the application process and deposit their dues ahead of the December 3 deadline.
The directive comes following a request from the Ministry of Religious Affairs and Interfaith Harmony, aimed at ensuring smooth processing for Hajj applicants.
In a related development, the government announced a significant reduction in Hajj airfares for 2025. Ticket prices under the federal program were reduced by Rs. 14,000, bringing the cost down to Rs. 220,000 from last year’s Rs. 234,000. Pakistan International Airlines (PIA), Saudi Airlines, and private carriers have collaborated to offer this relief package.
According to the Punjab Religious Affairs Department, the number of Hajj applications under the government scheme had reached 24,266 as of November 28, 2024. The application process gained momentum, with over 4,000 applications submitted on November 27 alone.
Applicants are required to deposit an initial amount of Rs. 2 lakh with their application, followed by a remaining payment of Rs. 4 lakh within 10 days after the draw.
The deadline for Hajj applications under the government scheme is December 3, while the draw is scheduled for December 6, 2024.
