Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif has launched the third phase of the ‘Super Seeder Scheme’ aimed at reducing smog and maintaining a clean environment in the province.
According to the Associated Press of Pakistan (APP), the third phase sets a target of providing 2,000 Super Seeders before wheat sowing begins in October. The Super Seeder technology ensures that paddy crop residues are efficiently mixed into the soil, preventing stubble burning, a major contributor to smog.
To facilitate farmers, the government has introduced a toll-free helpline, 0800-17000, for further information and guidance regarding the scheme.
How to Apply for the Scheme
Farmers interested in availing this initiative must follow these steps:
- Fill out the application form available on the designated website.
- Submit a complete application along with an undertaking on Rs100 stamp paper, confirming adherence to eligibility criteria for financial assistance.
- Applications must be submitted to the office of the Assistant Agricultural Engineer (Field) or Assistant Director Agricultural Engineering in the respective district, where applicant records will be maintained.
- Alternatively, farmers can submit applications at the tehsil level in the office of the Assistant Director Agriculture (Ext.).
Eligibility Criteria
- The applicant must own a tractor with a minimum of 65 horsepower.
- The farmer must agree to provide Super Seeder services to other farmers on a rental basis.
- The applicant must not have applied for machinery or equipment assistance under this scheme in any other district in Punjab.
- The allotted machinery and implements must be acquired from pre-qualified firms within 20 days of receiving the allotment letter; failure to do so will result in the cancellation of financial assistance, with the subsidy reallocated to the next eligible farmer on the merit list.
- The decision of the allotment committee is final and cannot be challenged in court.
The Punjab government’s continued efforts in promoting environmentally friendly agricultural practices underscore its commitment to tackling smog-related challenges and ensuring sustainable farming methods in the province.
